This live virtual training course, via WebEx, is a boot camp for preparing coders to take the national coding credentialing examination. This eight-hour course, four hours on each day, will assist you in the preparation for sitting for the coding certification for both AAPC and AHIMA. The course will review exam information, show you "best practices" for your study guides, and give you an overview of testing materials, followed by two practice exams at the conclusion of the course.

Gain an introduction to concepts related to the hardware and software applications necessary to participate in TTC’s Workforce Training online health care programs. Explore how to take tests in Microsoft desktop applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Discuss how to communicate electronically and search the internet. As a student in the Coding Specialist program, you are required to successfully complete this course before moving on to advanced level course work within the program. Special Notice: Book not required.

Master the medical vocabulary and terms used in allied health and medical careers in this online course. Study word parts, root words, general application, abbreviations, medical terminology and body systems. This is the only time in the Coding Specialist program that two courses must be taken at the same time. Books are not included and must be new with the Mindtap access card purchased at the TTC Bookstore.The majority of the books in the first half of this program are online books with the MindTap resources (a cost saving with Cengage Unlimited) needed to complete each course. The Cengage Unlimited information is given on the start day of this course after logging on.

Study recordkeeping practices for electronic health records. Become familiar with patient record content and concepts regarding the use and maintenance of the electronic health record. Explore procedures in the filing, numbering and retention of patient records along with indexes and registers. Discover how to perform quantitative analysis. Learn the guidelines for release of patient information. Understand the regulatory and accrediting agencies associated with these records and the data contained within them. Learn the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10CM), a coding system that catalogs health conditions by categories of similar diseases, under which specific conditions are listed. In the US, ICD-10 is created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), and it consists of two medical code sets: ICD-10CM (Clinical Modification) and ICD-10PCS (Procedural Coding System). Become familiar with general ICD-10CM coding, including chapter S and outpatient coding. ICD-10CM medical coding includes services performed by physicians as medically necessary. Special Notice: Note: Professionals in the billing or coding field may take this as a single continuing education course to gain an update on the latest rules and guidelines. Prerequisite for Coding Specialist students: Successful completion of CS 4 – Health Care Data Content and Electronic Health Records Textbooks (not included): Current year code manuals and textbooks are needed for this core coding course and are available for purchase at the TTC Bookstore.

Learn International Classification of Diseases Procedural Coding System (ICD-10PCS) used for inpatient coding. ICD-10PCS medical coding includes in hospital or inpatient coding in two medical coding systems, the I-10PCS code set and the Diagnostic Related Groups, or DRGs. I-10CM guidelines also apply to inpatient coding. Special Notice: Professionals in the billing or coding field may take this as a single continuing education course to gain an update on the latest rules and guidelines. Prerequisite for Coding Specialist students: Successful completion of CS 5 – ICD-10 CM Coding Textbooks (not included): Current year code manuals and textbooks are needed for this course and are available for purchase at the TTC Bookstore.

Get an introduction to the history, application and format of the uniform language that accurately describes medical, surgical and diagnostic services as set forth by the American Medical Association. Practice assigning very basic, valid procedural codes.
